It’s November, and with festivities ramping up, the temperature rising, it’s a month of great food, even better drinks and brand spanking new spaces. Celebrate The Melbourne Cup
It’s known as “the race that stops the nation”, but for Shire locals, it’s a chance to head down to one of our favourite watering holes for a relaxed afternoon. There are plenty of spots that are hosting Melbourne Cup dos, including Meadow, Pippis, Parc, Pinos, and Alphabet St - you can check out our full list here. Give Your Santa Photos An Aussie Twist
Santa’s doing things a little differently in the Shire this Christmas. On Sunday 22nd November, local photographer Sasha Faint is bringing Santa’s Summer Cabin to life with a fishing-themed Christmas portrait experience. Kids can join Santa on his summer fishing adventure for a fun twist on the usual Christmas photos. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Shire Christmas without Santa hitting the beach. The much-loved Santa on the Beach sessions are returning to Elouera Beach on Saturday 14th and Sunday 29th November. Both experiences are now open for bookings here.
Eat Your Way Through Fior’s New $55 Set Menu
Three courses for $55? Fior has our attention. The Gymea favourite has introduced its new Weekday Eats menu, with five entrées, six mains and three desserts to mix and match. Think Lasagne Skewers, Sundried Tomato Dip, Handmade Mafaldine Alla Vodka and Mango Mousse, all part of the restaurant’s new Spring/Summer line-up. The menu is available Tuesday to Thursday from 5:30pm and Friday lunch. Our advice? Arrive hungry and leave room for dessert.
Explore The Cambridge Christmas Markets
The Cambridge Christmas Markets are back on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November, bringing two days of festive shopping by the beach. From 10:00am to 4:00pm Held at Don Lucas Reserve, expect an exciting lineup of unique stalls with festive foods, boutique homewares, fashion, art, children’s wear, specialty toys, organics, and more – perfect for finding those one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts.
Sip Your Way To Athens At Cronulla’s Newest Wine Bar
The brothers behind Homer Rogue Taverna are at it again, and this time, they’re bringing Sydney’s first ouzeri to Cronulla. Officially opening on Friday 13th November, Volta is a new 60-seat wine bar tucked into the laneway next door to Homer, inspired by the laid-back drinking culture of Athens. Expect more than 20 varieties of ouzo, Greek and international wines by the glass, and a relaxed, walk-in-only atmosphere made for casual drinks that turn into long afternoons. With an open-plan bar and laneway seating reminiscent of Athens’ bustling side streets, this is one opening we’ve got our eyes on.
Get Your Grills Fix Seven Days A Week
After 20 years of serving up some of the Shire’s most-loved takeaway feeds, Grills on Wills is finally opening on Sundays. Yep, the long-time Woolooware favourite is now dishing up its Famous Schnitzel Rolls, Grilled Chicken Wraps and Golden Potato Scallops seven days a week. Known for its generous servings, familiar faces behind the counter and a loyal following of locals who know their order by heart, it’s not hard to see why this place has been a Shire staple for two decades. And after years of locals asking for Sunday trading, their weekend wishes have officially been granted.
Have A Laugh At Cronulla RSL’s Comedy Night
Think the Shire's got some hidden comedy talent? We're about to find out. On Wednesday 18th November, Cronulla RSL is hosting Have A Crack Comedy Night, where up to eight locals with no professional comedy experience will each have five minutes behind the mic. Their mission? Impress three judges and take home the $500 cash prize. Round up your crew and settle in from 7:30pm for a night of laughs, courtesy of some of the Shire's own.
Welcome Eliette To The Sunday Brunch Scene
Sunday brunch at Eliette? For the first time ever, it's happening. From 1st November, the Sutherland favourite is finally opening its doors seven days a week, which means Sunday coffee runs and long brunches are officially on the menu. Expect their much-loved White Horse Coffee alongside wholesome favourites like Bacon & Egg Rolls With Potato Rosti, Corn & Zucchini Fritters and Smoked Salmon Bagels, all served in the cafe's light-filled indoor and outdoor setting. And if you're already an Eliette regular, we know exactly where you'll be spending your next Sunday morning.
Kick Back At A Sunday Sesh At Next Door
Not quite ready for the weekend to end? Next Door is keeping things going with Sunday Sessions every week from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. We're talking $8 beers, $10 wines and $15 select cocktails, with live music, small plates to share and a beachside spot to soak up the afternoon sun. Grab a table, order another round and leave the Sunday night blues for later.
Embrace Christmas At Menai Foodies Market
Christmas is coming early to Menai, with Menai Foodies Market taking over Parc Menai for a festive edition on Friday 13th November. From 4:00pm to 9:00pm, explore more than 75 stalls packed with street food, sweet treats, artisan goods and Christmas gifts. Between browsing and bites, enjoy live music, with carnival rides and pony rides keeping the little ones entertained. Bring the whole family, arrive hungry and get a head start on your Christmas shopping.
Make Sundays A Family Affair At NOA
Kids under seven eat free every Sunday? NOA has our attention. The Cronulla favourite is introducing family-friendly Sundays, with the little ones now eating on the house. And that's not the only news. Little NOA is also serving up breakfast, with everything from a Full English and Banana Pancakes to Breakfast Burgers and coffee. Walk-ins are welcome too, so you can drop by whenever the breakfast cravings hit.
