Homer Rogue Taverna Brothers To Open Wine Bar And Ouzeri Volta In Time For Summer

The brothers behind Cronulla favourite Homer Rogue Taverna are bringing another taste of Athens to the Shire, with a new 60-seat wine bar and ouzeri set to open just in time for summer.
Located in the laneway next door to Homer, which celebrates its first birthday in August, Volta is expected to open in October.
Walk-in only and designed for casual drinks and eats, the new venue will serve a curated selection of wines by the glass from Greece and around the world, alongside more than 20 varieties of ouzo from its open-plan, custom-designed bar.
Owners Harry and Mario Kapoulas say Volta will be Sydney’s first ouzeri, bringing a style of drinking and dining that is part of everyday life in Greece to Cronulla.
“Ouzo is Greece’s national drink, you can’t go anywhere, particularly in Athens, without seeing people coming together over the aperitif, enjoying the good life,” Harry says.
“Sydneysiders have gotten more adventurous when it comes to their food and drink choices, and we think they’re ready for the great ouzo summer.”
Volta, which means “to go out” in Greek, will have a similar industrial and raw feel to Homer, with added warmth through textured rugs, mid-20th-century leather chairs and a large communal dining table running through the centre of the venue.
Outside, the relaxed laneway space will be filled with crates and casual furnishings, designed to feel reminiscent of long afternoons spent on one of Athens’ bustling side streets.
Harry says Volta will sit somewhere between the team’s existing venues, HAM cafe and Homer Rogue Taverna, giving locals a place to drop in for a drink before dinner, settle in after a booking, or make a night of it on its own.
Volta will be located at 4/3 Surf Lane in Cronulla and will open from Wednesday to Sunday.
