Wine Tasting

The Wine Traveller

There’s wine — and then there’s wine with a story behind it. And that’s exactly where The Wine Traveller comes in.

Born back in 2008 and shaped through years of tasting, travelling, and refining, The Wine Traveller is a Shire-based business bringing sustainably made, minimal-intervention wines to curious drinkers who want something better than the standard bottle-o run. As Eliza shares, “We like to get wines that we actually enjoy drinking — wines that don’t break the bank, and wines made without all the unnecessary chemicals.”

Their approach is simple: Good wine. Good value. Good people behind it.

A different kind of wine sourcing.

Instead of dealing with mass producers or familiar supermarket labels, The Wine Traveller hunts for small, family-run, often hard-to-find wineries — the kind you won’t spot at Dan Murphy’s and, in many cases, not even at boutique retailers. “One thing we’ve found is that so many of these winemakers get into the industry because they genuinely love it,” Eliza says. “And if they love it, they tend to make really good wines.”

Across their collection, you’ll find wines shaped by minimal-intervention methods and sustainably minded, organic-leaning practices. Certification differs between producers, but the philosophy remains constant — thoughtful, holistic winemaking from grape to glass.

A world tour, delivered to your door!

The Wine Traveller brings together the best of Europe — Spain, Italy, France — plus local favourites from Margaret River, Orange, the Hunter, Barossa, and even New Zealand.

Their hero, The Journey Pack, is exactly what it sounds like: six wines curated around a theme, region, or newly discovered producer. One month, you’re sipping your way across Europe; the next, you’re meeting a tiny Canberra winery doing seriously impressive things. As Eliza puts it, “It’s a world of discovery,” and half the fun is watching people fall for wines they never knew existed.

Each box comes with tasting notes and food pairings, so your at-home tasting night feels intentional without any of the guesswork. Go monthly or quarterly, or start with a once-off pack. And if one bottle becomes your whole personality? You can subscribe to that single wine every month — Eliza’s personal favourite feature.

Because choosing wine can feel like spinning a wheel, Eliza and Greg meet every producer herself — tasting with them, walking their vineyards, and learning their story. “We make sure they are what they say they are. If they love what they do, you can taste it.”

The whole thing is curated for people who want to drink better without needing a wine diploma.

Brockenchack Wines

One of their best-kept secrets? In-home private tastings. Birthdays, dinner parties, girls’ nights — Eliza builds a lineup to match the vibe, from Italian and French classics to tiny Australian producers you’ll be name-dropping later. “It’s such a relaxed experience,” she says. You taste, hear the stories, and discover something new together.

And if you want to try before you subscribe, you’ll find The Wine Traveller at the Shire Farmers’ Market most Saturdays — sharing new finds and helping you pick bottles you’ll actually enjoy (not just the ones with pretty labels).

For the Wine Lover Who’s Hard to Buy For

Some gifts get used once. Others get opened, poured, shared, and talked about. The Journey Pack is very much the latter. It’s one of those thoughtful, meaningful gifts that feels like an experience rather than a product. As Eliza says, “If you’re stuck on what to get your dad… this is always a good idea.”

There’s something special about discovering a wine you truly connect with. The Wine Traveller brings those moments closer — thoughtful bottles, global stories, and a gentle push to explore beyond the familiar.

Here’s to finding your next favourite!
