Sip Your Way Through These NSW South Coast Wineries

A wine trail that’s worth your weekend

Coolangatta Estate Winery, Shoalhaven

Coolangatta Estate

Just south of the Shire, the South Coast serves up cellar doors that feel like well-kept secrets — ocean breezes, rolling vineyards, and wines worth lingering over. Whether you're chasing a lazy day trip or locking in a weekend away, these are the spots locals return to (and visitors wish they knew sooner). From crisp whites to small-batch reds, here’s where to sip, snack and settle in.

Cambewarra Estate

Cambewarra Estate

Located just outside Nowra, Cambewarra is one of those wineries that manages to be both fun and elegant. It’s got a relaxed cellar door, a sweet little restaurant, and pastel-pink high teas served in oversized teacups (yes, seriously). Their Rosé and Vintage Chambourcin are always popular pours, and they’ve recently added their own craft beer to the mix.

Scout Tip: Book the teacup table if you’re doing high tea — it’s quirky, photogenic, and a bit of a South Coast rite of passage.

Coolangatta Estate, Bolong

Coolangatta Estate

Steeped in history and sitting on the site of the South Coast’s first European settlement, Coolangatta blends heritage with great views and even better wine. With over 2,000 awards under its belt, this place is a staple for anyone doing the trail. Their Semillon is one of the most awarded in Australia, and the setting — complete with convict-era buildings — makes it one of the more unique stops.

Scout Tip: Make a booking for one of their long lunches or Sunday sessions if you can — it’s the best way to take in the views with a glass in hand.

Crooked River Wines, Gerringong

Crooked River Wines

Set on the outskirts of Gerringong with views stretching from vineyard to sea, Crooked River is one of the bigger names on the trail — and a go-to when the sun’s out. The cellar door is relaxed, the food’s just as good as the view, and their Rosé and Sparkling Moscato are made for warm afternoons. Add in a rolling calendar of live music and events, and you’ve got a spot that covers all bases.

Scout Tip: Aim for a later sitting — the crowd thins, the views shine, and the rosé pours well into the afternoon.

Cupitts Estate, Ulladulla

Cupitt’s Estate

A little bit winery, a little bit brewery, a little bit fromagerie — Cupitt’s near Ulladulla is a crowd favourite for good reason. Everything is made on-site, including the cheese, and their paddock-to-plate restaurant is one of the best spots to settle in for the afternoon. You’ll find crisp Sauvignon Blancs, earthy Shiraz and plenty of local produce to pair it with.

Scout’s Tip: Grab a bottle, some of their house-made cheese and take it to the lawn — no fuss, just good snacks and a great view.

Lyrebird, Winery

Lyrebird Ridge Organic Winery

Set off-the-beaten-path in Budgong, this one’s all about slowing down. Lyrebird Ridge keeps things low-key and organic, with natural wines, bushland surrounds, and the kind of place you can truly unplug. There’s no restaurant, but you’re welcome to bring your own picnic and find a shady spot under the trees.

Scout Tip: Call ahead to check their opening hours, then pack your own snacks — they’re more than happy for you to stay a while.

Mountain Ridge Wines

Mountain Ridge Wines

Just 8km from Berry, this family-run vineyard sits on a working farm and offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The restaurant has a strong local following, and their seasonal set menus pair perfectly with estate wines like the Pinot Grigio and Shiraz. There's also a rotating gallery and regular live music.

Scout Tip: First Sunday of the month? There’s usually live music on the deck — and it’s one of the best spots in Berry to spend an afternoon.

Silos Estate

This one’s a bit of a local icon — just off the highway outside Berry, Silos combines boutique wine, alpacas, and a strong eco focus. They offer classic cool-climate wines and also produce the Wileys Creek range, which supports local community causes. You can stay on-site too, if one tasting turns into a few.

Scout Tip: Check out their gift shop for alpaca wool and other fun bits you won’t find at your average winery.

Two Figs Winery

Two Figs Winery

Small but mighty, Two Figs is perched on a hill just outside Berry with panoramic views over the Shoalhaven River. It’s boutique, it’s laid-back, and the tastings are seated, personal and never rushed. Their Chardonnay, Shiraz Cab, and Rosé are worth a spot in your take-home bag.

Scout Tip: Do the guided flight with the cheese board — the view alone is worth the stop, and the wine does the rest.

Yarrawa Estate

Kangaroo Valley’s hidden gem. Yarrawa is small, family-run, and full of heart. The wines are all grown and made on-site, and tastings are often hosted by the owners themselves. Expect generous pours, local produce, and a relaxed, backyard-style vibe with a view.

Scout Tip: They’re open by appointment only — but it’s one of the most personal experiences on the trail. Book ahead and allow extra time to chat.
