The Shire’s Best Foodie Openings Of 2025 (So Far)

The local foodie scene has never looked better

Homer, Cronulla

Homer, Cronulla

The Shire isn’t just keeping up, it’s setting the foodie agenda. Gritty tavernas, stylish cafes, and bars that turn one drink into many are already turning heads and reshaping the scene in 2025. AM coffee, PM cocktails — your week never looked better.

Homer Rogue Taverna

The team behind Ham has dropped another banger. Homer Rogue Taverna is Cronulla’s modern-day ode to gritty Athenian tavernas — yet industrial, vibey, and packed with souvla. Designed to feel like it’s always been here (but with chef’s bench seating and a walk-up wine wall), this 100-seater delivers on every front: open kitchen action, sharing-style plates, and a cocktail list that’s anything but boring.

Highlights? The Homer Gyros, Manouri cheese baked with hot honey, and Spanakorizo with fish are worth the hype — and the in-house brewed lager doesn’t hurt either.

Fred’s After Hours

Fred’s by day, wine bar by night. Fred’s After Hours brings a Euro-inspired menu to Cronulla with Lobster Rolls, Caviar Crumpets, and Wagyu Skewers worth booking for. The lights are low, the drinks list is sharp, and every detail feels thought out — right down to the Prosecco Palate Cleanser.

Pilgrim’s

Cronulla’s OG vegetarian cafe recently levelled up. Pilgrims has moved into a bold new spot across from South Cronulla Beach, with earthy tones, terrazzo tiles, and serious WFH credit (hello powerpoints and pet-friendly seating).

Breakfast runs all day now, and the menu’s looking better than ever. Think stacked brekkie bowls, toasties that mean business, and fresh picks like the Falafel Sambo and Sage Salad. There’s vegan cheese that actually delivers — and yes, even gelato for your four-legged brunch date.

Mansfield Coffee

Coffee lovers, you’ve met your match. Mansfield Coffee is doing things differently — think sleek fit-out, countertop service, and a bean line-up that changes with the week.

Their nostalgic “coffee album” lets you flick through and choose your brew, like you’re picking your favourite track. And if you’re really chasing bragging rights? There’s a $30 cup on the menu that’s all about rare beans for when you’re feeling extra.

Robertos, Bangor

Roberto’s

Bobby’s, but make it Bangor. Roberto’s is the new Italian-style pub concept that’s giving classic feeds a Mediterranean glow-up — cue spritzes, seafood, and pasta you won’t want to share.

With warm tones, open-air vibes, and seating made for group hangs, this is your new excuse to hit the Tavern. Bonus points for the gelato cart and rotating wine list.

Scout Tip: Start with the fried prawns, end with pistachio gelato.

Sugar Reef

Coffee. Cocktails. Caramel-drizzled everything. Sugar Reef is bringing espresso bar energy with dessert-first attitude — and we’re not mad about it.

The fit-out’s slick, the sweets go hard, and the in-between bites (toasties, snacks, vino) round it all out. Come for the caffeine, stay for the chocolate.

2/19 Gerrale Street, Cronulla

Yochi, Cronulla

Yochi

Self-serve froyo has entered the chat — and Yochi isn’t playing around. Load up your cup and hit the toppings bar like a pro: fresh fruit, caramel drizzle, cookie dough chunks, and all the sweet extras your inner kid would absolutely approve of. Maximum toppings encouraged.

Makers Daily

Matcha lovers, meet your new HQ..Makers Daily is Cronulla’s go-to for specialty matcha in all the flavours you didn’t know you needed — picture biscoff, birthday cake, pistachio, and white choc.

There are also feel-good smoothies (the Spirulina one hits), creative sweet treats, and a vibe that feels fresh, fun, and totally different from anything else in town.
