The team behind Cronulla favourite Ham has opened the doors to their newest venture, and it’s set to shake up the Shire dining scene. Homer Rogue Taverna brings a gritty, raw Athenian-inspired experience with a modern edge – think charcoal-roasted souvla, family recipes, and an epic walk-up wine fridge stocked with Greek and Australian drops.

“Homer isn’t your average Sydney restaurant. It’s a place where you’re welcome whether you’re still in your thongs after a day at the beach, enjoying a family meal or celebrating a special occasion," says co-owner Harry Kapoulas.

Brothers Harry and Mario Kapoulas have taken inspiration from the lively tavernas of Athens, delivering a 100-seat space that feels like it’s been around forever – but with a fresh, industrial twist. Expect terrazzo floors, exposed brick, graffiti, and an open kitchen complete with chef’s bench seating so you can watch the action as your dishes are prepared.

The menu is all about sharing, with dishes served as they’re ready.

Chefs James Watson (ex-Peacock Trattoria) and Kirri Mouat (ex-Icebergs, Ham) have created a line-up of small plates and rotisserie options using family recipes and Athenian flavours. Expect spanakopita, loukaniko, handmade flatbreads, saganaki, octopus souvlaki, and the Kapoulas’ mum’s famous moussaka – all with their own unique Homer twist.

“At its heart it’s about people coming together for a good time, good food and good drinks, with an atmosphere that reflects that,” says Harry.

Wine lovers can grab their own bottle straight from the three-metre custom wine fridge – or go for a 500ml carafe of white or red. If cocktails are more your thing, sip on an Athenian Punch, a $10 martini mouthful, or try Homer’s Epic Lager, brewed exclusively in collaboration with Young Henrys.
