A studio built on strength, simplicity, and showing up for yourself

Gymea’s got a new spot to stretch, strengthen, and slow down — say hello to Epoch Pilates. Nestled inside the tranquil Alasana Yoga, a space loved by Gymea locals, Epoch Pilates was created with inclusivity front of mind. The studio invites everyone in, from first-timers to pilates pros, with an approachable, “come as you are” energy that’s hard not to love.

For founder Bianka, it all started with a focus on accessibility. “We wanted to create a welcoming environment for people who’ve wanted to dip their toe into Pilates but didn’t know where to start, or felt like they didn’t fit the mould of what a person who goes to Pilates should look like.”

Unlike most reformer-based studios nearby, Epoch focuses purely on mat Pilates, and that’s exactly what sets it apart. “A lot of instructors will say this too — mat is actually a lot harder than reformer because you’re using your own body weight,” says Bianka.

“You can actually gauge how much fitter you’ve gotten because you’re building those muscles based on your body weight. It’s also less intimidating — you don’t have to think too much about what’s going to happen next. It’s just you, the mat, and a selection of props as you’re guided by an experienced instructor. You just show up as you are, whatever outfit you’ve got on, and get started.”

The vibe inside the studio is intentionally down to earth.

Classes are small, with instructors offering plenty of individual adjustments and cues. “There’s no pre-education you need to have — everything can be explained on a really simple level,” Bianka adds. “It’s a lot easier to give people corrections because there are fewer barriers for the instructor, too.”

With morning classes in full swing and Mum-and-Bub sessions already a hit, Epoch’s looking to add more mid-morning and weekend spots to the mix. “It’s all about growing with our members and finding the rhythm that works,” says Bianka.

Beyond the sweat, it’s the sense of calm that keeps people coming back. “There’s a lot of mindfulness that comes with it,” Bianka says. In a world that moves a little too fast, Epoch Pilates feels like a much-needed reset — all about slowing down, tuning in, and finding strength through simple, mindful movement.

Classes are designed to meet every body, every fitness level, and every kind of day — helping you feel a little stronger each time you roll out your mat. And once class wraps up, locals have already locked in their post-Pilates ritual – coffee at Apex Gymea, the early-morning spot known for its friendly crew, Spanish tunes, and even better espresso.
