The Shire Broker Helping Home Buyers See the Bigger Picture

Think your dream property is out of reach? Think again

It doesn’t matter if it’s your first, your second or your fifth. A cute, 70s apartment, or a sprawling waterfront abode. Every property purchase has one thing in common: it’s a lot. Both good and bad, the steps between the search and securing the keys are many and complex, which is exactly why it pays to have someone with the know-how to back you through the process.

Mortgage broker, mother of two and Shire local Jessica Van Den Heuvel has done the industry rounds. With over a decade of experience across banking, lending and mortgage broking, Jess has played with heavy-hitters including Pepper Money, NAB and Australian Finance Group. Put simply, she knows her stuff. Now working under industry top-25 business Strategic Brokers, Jess, who sees herself as an “entry point” to the journey, is bringing her services to Shire locals looking to break into the market. Her goal? To show everyone that property ownership is achievable and make it happen - even without a million dollar salary.

“People think ‘I’m never going to be able to get into the property market in Australia’ and that’s just absolutely not the case” says Jess. “There are so many options that people are not aware of. My goal is to educate my clients on the ways they can not only enter the property market but build a property portfolio because with the right strategy it’s not as out of reach as you think.”

And before you discount Jess’ services for lack of extra stretch in your budget, let’s just clarify one thing: mortgage brokers don’t cost a cent.

"One of the biggest misconceptions about mortgage brokers is that people think they have to pay for our services. The reality is, we're paid by the bank, not the buyer.” Jess explains. “If you go to a bank, they're going to be selling you their product. I can give you access to 60 different lenders, 60 different products, and I'll get you the one that best suits your goals.”

The real difference? Your bank can only show you what’s on its own shelf. Jess can shop around across multiple lenders, giving you a much clearer picture of what’s available before finding the option that makes the most sense for you.

Working as a female mortgage broker in a male-dominated industry, Jess’ approach is a deliberately more nurturing, approachable, genuine and friendly one. It’s not just about getting a ‘cheap’ rate, in fact, Jess describes herself as almost like a property coach.

“I offer more than just getting my clients the best interest rate. I’m a big picture person and like to sit down with my clients to understand their short and long term goals and what property can unlock for them and their lifestyle. I pride myself on offering more than just a give me your documents and let’s settle it approach.”

Jess says there are so many alternatives to straight-up property purchasing, like rent-vesting, that can see people as young as 20 and 30 building a portfolio that will allow them to achieve their real estate goals in the not-too-distant future.

“Despite common belief, rent isn't dead money.”
