Every now and then you stumble across a brand that speaks to you on a soul level and for us, Shire-based distillery, Scylla, are just that. Scylla (named after Scylla Bay in Como) is the brainchild of Shire residents Zoe, Justin and John and their spirits and liqueurs are distilled right here in Heathcote. Gathering together their diverse skill base, these guys have set out to take the liquor world by storm with their swish packaging and quality products.

Not just content to produce tasty liqueurs and hand-crafted vodka, these guys have created a zero-waste distillery.

We’re talking biodegradable tape and recycled packaging with all leftover fruits from maceration repurposed and turned into cocktails ingredients and garnishes. On top of that, the good folk at Scylla donate 2% of their profits to the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife.

Like all good businesses, they started with a single quality product and let the ensuing demand do the rest. Kicking things off with a smooth vodka in 2021, it wasn’t long until the people wanted more and Scylla’s delicious liqueur range was born. Keen to make a splash in a saturated market, it’s only top quality produce that makes its way into a Scylla product. Their Raspberry Liqueur (20%) uses raspberries grown in NSW and Tassie, double-fold bourbon bean vanilla and sugar grown in far north Queensland. Working directly with Aussie farmers, the brand is proud to offer an Australian-made product that is an alternative to Chambord with a much smaller carbon footprint.

As for their coffee liqueur, well, the team knew it had to be White Horse Coffee. Espresso martini lovers - it doesn’t get better than this!

But, it’s not just what’s inside the bottle that counts. Tired of outdated and overly masculine packaging, Scylla have designed something you’d be proud to have on your bar cart.

“When we looked into what a Scylla was in Greek mythology we were sold. She’s a beautiful nymph turned into a powerful monster who roamed the sea attacking the ships of passing sailors. Having a strong female creature as a central part of our branding really fit with the vibe we were going for”, co-founder, John, shares.

Combined with minimalist design and serene colourways, Scylla bottles are a refreshing sight.
