New In The Shire: Meet Robertos, Bangor Tavern’s Italian-Inspired Makeover
Classic pub energy, with a bold Italian twist.
Meet Bangor-newbie: Robertos
There’s a new reason to swing by Bangor Tavern — and it involves woodfired pizza, spritz jugs, and a scoop of pistachio gelato.
Officially opening Monday 14th April, Robertos is the latest venture from the local legends behind Bobby’s Cronulla, Adam and Kylie Micola. This time, they’re bringing a bold Italian twist to the humble pub meal — think beef shin ragù, fried prawns with garlic and chilli, and crowd-pleasers like chicken schnittys and pizzas, all with a Mediterranean edge.
The concept is simple: take everything you love about a classic Aussie pub feed and give it a glow-up. Designed by the Bobby’s team, the Robertos menu is all about flavour-packed, shareable dishes, paired with an atmosphere that leans alfresco, and a whole lot of fun.
“Our heavily alfresco-forward venue is so well suited for Robertos to provide our customers a gentle pivot into the regions of Italy,” says co-owner Adam Micola. “Curated to inject more personality into the venue, Robertos is promising to deliver on all you love about a pub meal, just with a whole lot more fun.”
From the grilled octopus with nduja vinaigrette to the piccantissima pizza with hot salami and calabrese chilli, the lineup is designed to impress without overcomplicating things. Bonus? There’s a dedicated gelato cart slinging scoops of pistachio, chocolate, and pannacotta.
Behind the bar, expect Aussie wines with a few international gems in the mix — including drops from Golden Hour and Dead Man Walking — plus Italian-style spritzes and a rotating indie Beer of the Month. The drinks list was curated by Sydney hospitality heavyweight Alex Cameron (Table Manners, ex-Franca, Parlar, Armorica), so you know it’s dialled in.
The space itself has had a major facelift thanks to renowned design studio Tom Mark Henry, blending warm Mediterranean tones with soft neutrals and terracotta accents. There’s also a freshened-up playground for the kids, and a new sports lounge complete with a 3.5-metre indoor screen.
Whether you’re chasing a laid-back lunch, a lively group dinner, or just a cheeky gelato in the sunshine — Roberto's is putting Bangor back on the foodie map.
