From Ham to Homer: A Bold New Greek Taverna Is Coming To Cronulla

Think graffitied walls, street-style eats, and a fridge full of Greek wine

The brothers behind Ham Cafe are back — and this time, they’re going Greek.

Set to open in early July, Homer Rogue Taverna will bring a fresh take on Greek dining to the ground floor of a new residential development in Cronulla. Think raw, lively, and a little bit rebellious — more inner-city Athens than island-chic Mykonos.

It’s the latest venture from long-time locals and hospitality heavyweights Harry and Mario Kapoulas, who’ve helped shape the Shire’s food scene with Ham (a Cronulla mainstay since 2009), Rushi, and the much-loved C.C. Babcoq.

At Homer Rogue, expect graffitied walls, an open-plan layout, and a bustling back-bar — no white linen, no uniforms, and no pretence. The food? Fire-cooked meats, seafood, veg, and flatbreads from a custom-built pizza oven. There’ll be a heavy lean into Greek wines too, with guests invited to pick their bottle straight from the fridge.

According to Harry, this is the taverna they’ve always wanted to open.

“Greek food is part of our DNA,” he says. “We’ve grown up with it, we still love it, and we want to share that in a way that feels real — no polish, just good food and good energy.”

While Sydney has no shortage of Greek restaurants, Harry says this one will hit differently. “Everyone goes for that breezy, white-and-blue Mykonos vibe. But Athens is different. It’s grungy and electric — and the tavernas reflect that. That’s the vibe we’re chasing.”

With Cronulla’s laid-back beach culture, the brothers say the fit feels natural. Wander in straight from the sand, stay for a long lunch, or settle in for a wine-fuelled night.

They’ve also enlisted Sydney chef James Watson (ex-The Italian Stallion and Peacock Trattoria) to lead the kitchen — expect big flavour and zero fuss.
