Clear your calendars. Berry’s beloved live music series, A Day Well Spent, is back this June, and this time it’s all about Funk & Soul.

Taking over some of the town’s favourite pubs, bars and cafés on Thursday the 18th and Sunday the 21st of June, the free event features acclaimed touring acts, regional favourites and emerging talent performing across multiple venues. Start with a coffee at a local café, catch some live tunes over a long lunch, then wander from venue to venue as Berry’s streets come alive with music.

Leading the lineup is Sydney soul powerhouse CINTA and Melbourne collective Velvet Bloom. They’re joined by Sydney funk and soul favourites Honeydrip, high-energy Wollongong seven-piece Autumn Sunset, groove-focused newcomers Saturn Chromatic, and solo performers Blessie Pica, Erin Badman, Hannah Tregret, Isy Cappo, Jaspar Gubbay and SO-FI.

Holy Pavlova programmer Harrison Hall said the calibre of artists reflects the growing reputation of both the series and Berry itself as a live music destination.

"Velvet Bloom and CINTA are artists audiences would normally expect to see in major cities or at larger festivals. The fact they’re performing in Berry says a lot about what this series has become," Harrison said.

The festivities kick off on Thursday evening with performances at The Berry Hotel, Great Southern Hotel and Le Bar, before expanding into a town-wide trail on Sunday. Sunday’s lineup spans The Berry Hotel, Great Southern Hotel, Il Locale, Albert St Caffé & Bar, Le Bar, The Rutledge Bar & Eats and The Berry General Store.

All performances are free, although bookings are recommended at some venues.

Precinct Coordinator Kate Dezarnaulds said the response to the series had exceeded expectations.

"It’s honestly been a joy to watch. Every time A Day Well Spent rolls around, you can feel the excitement building and see more and more people embracing it. We’ve seen people of all ages enjoying incredible live music, catching up with friends, and making a day of it in Berry."

"The calibre of the acts has been extraordinary and, because every performance is free, it’s something everyone can be part of. The energy these weekends create has exceeded anything we imagined. The venues are buzzing, people are moving from venue to venue and there’s a real sense that the whole town is sharing in the experience."

Part of Berry’s Extend the Weekend initiative, the series encourages visitors to slow down, spend more time in town and explore beyond the usual tourist hotspots. For those new to Berry or visiting from Sydney, the town’s charming streets, boutique cafés, local shops like Few and Far or Sainte, and local wineries like Two Figs, Silos Estate or Mountain Ridge, make a long weekend worthwhile.

If you ask us, the Funk & Soul edition of A Day Well Spent is all the excuse you need to hit the highway, soak up some local culture, and make a proper day or long weekend of it in Berry.
